Welcoming Committee - Mentorship

Here at Glen Allen Elementary, we strive to create a welcoming community. One way we do this is with our Welcoming Committee for new Cub families.

The Welcoming Committee is committed to making your first year at GAES as smooth and outstanding as possible!   We know kindergarten can be a new, exciting and sometimes scary experience for you and your child.  Our mission is to welcome all new families and provide them the resources necessary for easy transition into our school.

If you are interested in being paired with a Welcoming Committee Mentor for the current school year, please complete the following form by clicking HERE

After completing the form, you will receive an introductory email from a member of our Welcoming Committee.  This person knows the ins and outs of GAES well and will regularly check in on you throughout the year.  We encourage you to utilize this person as a powerful resource for all questions, concerns or to simply to bounce an idea off of! Consider us your big brother/big sister for the school year.  We are excited to be sharing this new adventure with you!

Girls on the Run

Welcome to Girls on the Run!

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime of appreciation of health and fitness.

Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

The 24-lesson Girls on the Run Curriculum combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) running event with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills, and make healthy decisions.  All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.
